When I see the word “tweed,” I automatically associate it with Chanel. As for the word “cardigan,” I think of the preppy look, perhaps styled with pearls a la ladies who lunch.
So, when I came across this tweed cardigan from Alexander Wang and saw that it looked nothing like what I’d seen before or what I expected, you can bet that the first thing I did was to feature it here on our blog.
Could “tweed cardigans” be any more of an unfitting name for this stroke of genius? Alexander Wang’s unparalleled coolness strikes again.
Alexander Wang Frayed Tweed Zip Cardigan, $640.00
I am dying at how this cardigan fits like those much-coveted Burberry aviator jackets from fall 2010. I love how the body is cropped and fitted, with the sleeves curved and loose. The stand-up collar isn’t as oversized, but the ribbed lining inside that makes it warm and chunky works just as well, too.
The most amazing part about this jacket is how it’s really just made of a nubby knit, but the color and the slubbed treatment makes it look like as if it’s made of tweed.
Felted fringe and thick construction mimic nubby tweed, giving a cropped Alexander Wang cardigan sweater a uniquely soft hand
The jacket stays soft and warm but looks a lot more expensive! Well, actually, it is expensive — it retails for $640 at Farfetch and Shopbop.
Classic yet trendy, preppy yet sporty. A completely unexpected combination.
