Completely flooding the runways and urban street corners last spring, the sport-luxe-inspired trend will return and flourish this upcoming spring/summer season again.

With robust design houses like DKNY and Jean Paul Gaultier helping spearhead this look, it’s all but certain we’ll continue to see pieces like varsity jackets, baseball caps, and sneakers in our favorite shops and boutiques.

I, for one, advocate for the recent androgynous movement that kicked off last year. Fashion is more about art and expression than it is about the actual garments. Having said that, who are we to judge if brands such as Cheap Monday and G-Star want to integrate pieces that both men and women can wear into their collections?

A massive supporter of this sporty, masculine look is R&B superstar singer Rihanna. Over the past few months, RiRi has been photographed attending numerous events wearing androgynous pieces, such as blouson-style bomber jackets, hoodies, loose-fitting boyfriend jeans, and high-top sneakers.

Arriving at LAX a few nights ago, she was spotted wearing a comfy yet chic sport-luxe ensemble consisting of a fabric-blocked varsity jacket, a printed crew-neck sweatshirt, boyfriend-style leather trousers, a pair of high-top Adidas sneakers, and a striped toque to finish.

While her music and choice of suitors are often questioned, her style and fashion sense are not. A few days earlier, Chris Brown was spotted wearing the same leather ‘Love Not Hate’ jacket from his label Black Pyramid.

The limited edition jacket boasts a heart appliqué in red leather on the front and red leather designed on the back. Rihanna also rocked a beanie designed by Joy Rich and a pair of black Adidas sneakers.
