Milan Fashion Week Trend Alert: Minimalist Styling Makes a Comeback in AW13

With the recent showing of the AW13 Milan Fashion Week, numerous key pieces and trends from many of today’s top designers arose to the forefront. One such trend that I wholeheartedly welcome back is minimalist styling.

In 2012, we all witnessed the rise and dominance of maximalist styling. Trends such as oversized silhouettes and loud-print detailing each had time to enjoy their 15 minutes of fame. However, the re-emergence of minimalist designs brings a much-welcomed balance back to menswear collections. For those who prefer to fly under the fashion radar, this by far is a much easier pill to swallow than trying to integrate an oversized bright floral-printed bomber jacket into your wardrobe roster.

Prada was among the design houses that chose to incorporate the minimalist look into their show. Onlookers were treated to outfits featuring outerwear jackets, pullover sweaters, and fitted trousers in simple, uniform colors. What a clever way to bring simplistic sophistication back to menswear collections.

David Beckham, a global icon, is one such celebrity who possesses a great feel for styling and fashion. The famed football star was photographed several times over the past couple of weeks decked out in outfits that apply this minimal approach to dressing.

On the left, we see David wearing a navy blue cable-knit sweater, a similarly hued newsboy cap and chinos, and a pair of fresh white sneakers. In the other photo, we see him in a navy blue overcoat, a dark pair of fitted denims, a pair of dark brown walking shoes, and a brown newsboy cap to finish. If Becks is on board, I’m sure the rest of the world will soon follow suit.
