Once in a while, there comes a piece of clothing that is destined for greatness because it has been spotted on more than a couple of people who know a thing or two about style.

The poncho is one such garment.

We have to admit, it’s a totally unexpected trend considering how it’s always been there, teetering at the edges of the fashion industry all these years but not quite embraced into the street-style fold, not quite an “it” item.

We suppose it is sparked by the increasingly popular Burberry monogrammed poncho. In the past few months, many runway front-row staples have been spotted using this color-blocked goodness carrying their initials as if we needed further proof of their identity. Topshop also came up with their own version of a poncho, and that’s when we knew it’s going to be the next big thing — at least to people who can afford high-street goodies.

The following are just some of the celebrities who were photographed wearing a comfortable-looking poncho:

1. Taylor Swift

The “Shake It Off” singer was probably already feeling the biting cold as she was spotted wearing a checked Topshop poncho over her Halogen cashmere sweater and Hudson skinny jeans in deep jade. She styled with brown Prada calf leather ankle boots and a Topshop chunky cable knit pom scarf.

2. Olivia Palermo

Socialite, fashion maven and blogger Olivia Palermo showcased her Burberry color block check blanket poncho a second time and wore it with a pair of black skinny jeans, a sweater and her pair of Alexander McQueen suede embroidered loafers. She accessorized with her Janessa Leone ‘Vera’ fedora hat and Fendi leather ‘Peek-a-Boo’ satchel bag. The first time she wore it, she looked ultra chic in thigh-high boots, shorts and a plaid shirt.

3. Cara Delevingne

The model debuted the Burberry poncho back on the brand’s F/W runway so it’s just right that she put it to good use off-duty.

4. Suki Waterhouse

Earlier this year, the ‘Love, Rosie’ actress kept the cold at bay in her monogrammed poncho.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Queen Latifah were also spotted wearing this Burberry outerwear.

Whether you want to jump in on the poncho trend or you simply want something edgy to keep you warm while completing your look, a poncho is a good idea. Here are some great choices from Amazon:
