With warmer temps now upon us, this is as great a time as any to upgrade your current wardrobe to reflect the much-welcomed seasonal shift. As the sun and heat reveal itself, so, too, does our confidence and willingness to try the new and unexpected. Design houses the world over knowingly acknowledge this behavior and make it a point to offer bold garments to their respective collections in the hopes of catching the attention of the buying public. We tend to see this in items featuring bright colors, lively prints, and varying silhouettes.
One such item that I have wholeheartedly embraced over the past few seasons is the printed statement blazer. Available in a wide array of colors and prominent prints, such as a windowpane, gingham, houndstooth, camo, and paisley, just to name a few, these statement pieces continue to enjoy an impactful hold on the current state of fashion-forward menswear. It’s no secret; a printed blazer is a playful way to inject some life and spirit into smart-casual and formal ensembles.
While no formal rulebook exists, there are some easy-to-follow guidelines to consider when it comes to sporting such a bold piece.
- Mixing in neutrals with a statement piece such as a printed blazer is a relatively simple way to create visual balance. For example, try teaming a statement blazer with a solid-hued button-down shirt and a pair of fitted chino trousers to finish.
- In my humble opinion, mixing different prints is a legit art form that should be approached with caution. For those of you brave enough to attempt, I salute you! For the remainder sitting on the fence, keep in mind — print overload does happen. Try this dapper combo for your next event; match a moderately printed paisley blazer with a gingham-printed button-down shirt, and finish with a pair of fitted dark-wash denims.
- Wear it with confidence!
