For those of you out there looking to upgrade your wardrobes for the spring/summer season, look no further than French design house Balmain’s Spring 2013 RTW line.
Under the tutelage of fashion icons Pierre Balmain and Oscar de la Renta, Balmain was once highly regarded for its luxurious contemporary designs. However, since being handed down the creative reins, newly appointed Head Designer Olivier Rousteing has strived to instill his vision of a more modern and edgier fashion house.
The inspired collection features ensembles that showcase femininity and sexiness, two traits that most women hold so dear. In the show itself, pieces like short miniskirts and cropped sequined tops helped display these qualities beautifully. For balance, Rousteing also made it a point to exhibit the strong, powerful side of womanhood. This was displayed masterfully in androgynous-type items, such as loose-silhouetted trousers and structured blazers with large box-type shoulder pads. All in all, it’s a great line that easily spans a wide spectrum of personalities and styles.
Rousteing’s main goal for the collection was to pay homage to his childhood icon, singer/songwriter Sade, all while incorporating the insanely popular sports-luxe appeal. Mission accomplished!
